Finding John Steinbeck by Ginna Gordon

Finding John Steinbeck by Ginna Gordon

The first novel in a series, Finding John Steinbeck focuses on three sisters in a Carmel Valley family in the 60’s.

From the cover:

Life rumbles the earth at the farm, like any compound full of women, their men, children, elders and friends. They breathe the air of the Valley, filled with the scent of lavender growing abundantly on ten fertile acres. They eat of the garden harvest. The women are restless. The men are nervous. The girls are growing up in the 60s and they and their peers will become known as Baby Boomers, Flower Children, Hippies, Yuppies, the ME generation; they will be affected by the Vietnam War, Rock & Roll, revolutions from sexual to political and other dramatic social changes.
But, mostly, they will be dealing with their loves, their children and their homes as they relate to and are touched by those concerns mentioned above. Book One in the Sweet Farm Series, “Looking for John Steinbeck” sets the scene for the stories of the Wymans, their offspring and relations, with the reluctant Lord Charles Huffington, Jolene’s father, contemplating his recent behavior.

Adding to the charm of the series will be the illustrations by Dai Thomas. The author has calligraphy and book binding skills so combined with the paintings in the pages of this book, it is worth checking it out just for the aesthetics. This team has worked together previously on a series of children’s books of their own but also own Lucky Valley Press, a company that helps independent authors with editing, design and layout. So expect a slick-looking book!
