Titles by Henry Simpson

Henry Simpson specializes in murder mysteries. If this is your favorite genre, you are in luck! His 14 titles are all available on Kindle at Amazon.

I will list the titles here and give a brief description on some of them. They are all garnering 4-star reviews.

Here is a series of three books with the same character:

From the Author

Ed Lane novel time sequence is

1. A Splendid Little Murder
2. Island of Spirits
3. Finding Elysium

Lane’s character and personal circumstances change somewhat in the series. He starts Splendid as an inspector in the Federal Police investigating the murder of a Congressman’s personal assistant on La Tempestad Island. In solving the murder, he embarrasses the Congressman, who gets him fired.

Since then, he has been delivering pizzas and doing odd jobs to keep afloat. In Island, his outlook improves  when a private contractor hires him to work as local sheriff for a team of ecologists and researchers restoring La Tempestad from cattle ranch to its natural state. While working on the island, he has a close, personal encounter with a ghost and other inexplicable experiences.

Later, in Elysium, we find Lane working as a bartender in a jazz club, where the president of Elysium Analytics hires him to identify the person who hacked into his company’s computer network. He finds the hacker and later investigates and solves three related murders.

In this three-part series, the lead character is brilliant and a bit of a rebel. One can almost picture it being a tv series in the late 80’s. As one reviewer put it:
In this third Ed Lane novel, we find the ex-cop working as a bartender for a colorful oriental lady. He was a Federal Police inspector in an earlier life but was fired from that because of his tendency to buck the system. It is that personality trait that makes Ed who he is – a cross between James Rockford of the Rockford Files and Dirty Harry that Eastwood made famous.
Next, check out his five book series centered around ex-defense lawyer Joey Costa.
The first book in the series is Joey Costa’s New Game: A Goomba in Paradise
From Book 1: Joe Costa is a lawyer and Sandra Lawler a Las Vegas police detective. Their stories interweave and eventually converge. After ten years defending mobsters, Costa leaves the shady clientele and stress of his Los Angeles law practice for a more sedate life selling real estate in upscale Montecito. He has mixed success at his new game, but his past reputation attracts clients who hire him to solve their thorny problems by means legal and otherwise. Among them are Ken Pell, an art professor who wants out of an illegal contract to forge fine art for a malevolent cocaine distributor. Costa must find a way to do the job without getting himself or his client killed or alerting law enforcement. A Costa associate is involved in a Las Vegas murder. Vegas police assign Lawler to solve the crime. She tracks the likely killer to Santa Barbara, identifies Costa as a person of interest, and must determine whether he colluded with the killer in murder.

A random list of the author’s other titles:
(More info on this title from the article from the Monterey Herald, which also features other local authors and invites submissions.)
In this paperback, the author takes a break from his usual murder mystery genre and brings us some short stories full of humor and imagination. The wry humor brings MacGyver or Columbo television to mind and the characters are immediately likable.
Each of these books are part of the short stories found in the collection Henry’s Shorts: The Savage Hogs and Other Unlikely Tales but is also available separately on Kindle.
