Down, But Not Out on Squid Row by Bridgett Spicer

The last day of the 2015 Salinas Comic Con was today (Dec. 20, 2015) so we’ll feature a local comic/cartoon book!

Bridgett Spicer had a weekly cartoon in the Monterey Herald, depicting the life of starving artist Randie Springlemeyer, but the Herald  was corrupted by corporate-ness and dropped this and many other local features.

She printed two full-sized cartoon books before switching format and marrying the two main characters (Ryan and Randie).

You’ll laugh, you’ll co-miserate, you’ll love the local flavor (Ryan is a waiter at a Tiki restaurant in Marina Beach, they patronize a coffee joint called Rollickers).

Not available on Amazon, and no new listings of the book are featured in her Etsy store.

Buy locally at Downtown Book and Sound at 222 Main St. in Oldtown Salinas for the paltry sum of $14.95.
